15th August 1947 was the day when India got Independence from the British rule. From that time onwards we celebrate this day as national festival of India. This festival is celebrated all over India with great zeal and enthusiasm.
On this day the Prime Minister of India hoists flag on the Red Fort. Our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for the first time after independence hoisted the tricolored flag on the Red Fort for the first time. He also addressed the nation from there only after hoisting the flag. After flag hoisting national anthem that is Jana-Gana-Mana which was written by Rabindranath Tagore of Bengal is sung by the people and then speech is given by the Prime Minister. And also 21 gun shots are given to give the respect for the flag and nation. On this day in various schools, colleges, offices, institutions, societies, organisations, etc., flag hoisting ceremony is done. People actively participate in this ceremony.
After flag hoisting various games, competitions are arranged for different aged groups. There is public holiday on this day, so that people could celebrate this day without any works tensions or worries.
